Learn How To Buy The Right Amount of Cheap Paint In Tucson

BUY THE RIGHT AMOUNT

You too probably have finished a paint project and ended up with leftover paint - when on your own, it’s just not easy to figure out how much paint you should purchase for a job.

Most Do It Yourselfers, being those who paint only occasionally, usually will need help to guesstimate the perfect amount of paint required for their projects.

Here again, the Do It Yourselfers simply don't have the everyday job experience a professional painter has, who can more readily guesstimate the amount of paint needed for your present project.

The good news is, Re-PaintsTM shows you how to do your calculation job below. Perhaps best of all, below we have a link to our Re-PaintsTM Estimator to make your job simple.
PAINT WITHOUT THE GUESS WORK
If you're guesstimating the amount of paint you'll need for your job, you should consider these several variables. First, you should measure your project room(s)area(s), then click on our Re-PaintsTM Estimator, print out your Estimation and eMail or take your measurements to the Re-PaintTM store with you. Ask our Paint Professionals for help calculating how much paint you should buy.

Hereafter is a list of questions your Re-PaintsTM Paint Professionals will ask you to assure their best advice. So, it is a good thing to be prepared with the answers to these question as they will help determine just how much paint you'll require for your paint project. WHAT'S YOUR TOTAL SQUARE FOOTAGE First, calculate the total area of the surface you want to paint. The surface area can be for an interior or exterior of your painting project and is the total area of the interior walls or the outside walls of your project. Re-PaintTM has some nifty calculator tools at our stores and on our Re-Paints.com website which allow you to enter your room or area painting dimensions and calculate a good guesstimate of just how much paint you should buy. Of course the results are always just a guesstimate from any paint coverage calculator vary due to coverage rates varying by brand, quality and condition of the walls. You can always calculate the size of your wall area yourself, just measure the width and height of each wall or area your painting. For each wall or area, always multiply the width times the height and this will give you the area square footage. Then total up all the square footages and you'll have your grand total area. Next measure all windows, doors, or other breaks in the wall and make sure to subtract out their square footage from your original grand total calculation. Now you'll have the total area being the grand total number of square feet you'll need your paint to cover. Fro here, simply divide the grand total area by your paint products Coverage Rate, if you know it. (Sometimes Coverage Rate is on the label on the can.) If you can't locate the Coverage Rate, just use the tried and true 350 square footage coverage as a rough estimate. Standard Coverage Rates range are between 300 to 400 square feet per gallon of paint. Giving you an example, caculating the square footage of a 10’x10’ room, with a ceiling height of 10 feet, is about 400 square feet (10' Height x 10' Width = 100' x 4 Walls = 400'). If your paints Coverage Rate is 400 square feet per gallon, then you’ll require one gallon. If your paints Coverage Rate is 300 square feet per gallon, you’ll need 1.33 gallons for the job. But, don't forget to subtract out the area for your rooms/walls windows and doors, then in our example, you’ll likely need only one gallon for your typical 10’ x 10’ room or area. To illustrate further, if you have a 25’ x 25’ room (with 10 feet ceilings), would probably need six and a half gallons (25' Height x 25' Width = 625' x 4 Walls = 2500' / 400' = 6.5 gallons). We hope our illustration helps you with your start. You should also consider the following factors. CHANGING THE COLOR - CONSIDER THIS When your new paint color selection is similar to the original paint color, then you won't need as many coats. On the contrary though, if your changing colors from a very dark color and going to a very light color, or even from a very light to a very dark color, you'll likely need two, three, or even four coats. Further, colors that are really vibrant and darker colors, especially the red, orange and purple, usually require even more coats to get an color even finish. WHAT IS THE PAINT SURFACE TEXTURE Obviously, any textured wall or area will absorb more paint than smooth walls, simply due to them having a greater surface area. The more dramatic the textured area, the more paint the area will require — as sometimes you may require up to 50 percent more paint for the roughest textures and ence the "guesstimate. DO YOU WANT A SHINY OR FLAT SHEEN It is good to know as your sheen decreases, your Coverage Rate increases. Simply, flat paints require less paint to cover the same area, while the semi-gloss and glossy paints require more paint to cover. So it goes a project may require two coats when applying a flat paint, but typically three or more coats when using a semi-gloss or glossy paint. WILL YOU USE A PRIMER Here again, any new or unprimed drywall, hand plastered, and bare wood walls or areas will absorb much more paint and simply require more coats of paint than any surfaces which have already been primed or painted with a base coat. In addition to going a long way to help to achieve a better adhesion, the primer will fill in the tiny surface cracks and holes. Primer will also prevent your top coat from being absorbed into the wall material and hence can greatly reduce the number of coats you'll require. Generally primer are white, but you can always ask us at Re-PaintsTM to tint your primer so that the color of the primer is closer to your selected paint color. This will go along wat to reducing the number of coats you’ll require. And, if you know you'll need more then one coat, Primers are generally less expensive than paint, as well as being specially formulated to increase the adhesion and fill porous surfaces. But, instead of using a new primer, why not use up leftoever paint from your previous projects by applying it as a base coat to even out the surface and color. YOU MAY NEED A TINTED PRIMER You should use a tinted primer for certain color changes. Re_PaintsTM will tint your primer for you. Be aware though there are limits on how much tint pigment can be added to a primer and a paint too. Hence, the primer color will likely not be the same as your final paint coat color. Nonetheles, the primer will no doubt reduce the number of top surface coats you’ll need. Helpful Tip: Always utilize a gray primer if changing the area color to red.
